One of the most powerful voices emerging out of the Irish music scene recently, ANDI (Amy Kelly), has just unleashed her brand new single. ‘Giving Up’ is the second single to be released from ANDI’s upcoming debut EP ‘Cedarward’ and dwells on topics surrounding mental health, showing a vulnerable side to the singer.
Amy Kelly originally kicked off her career by fronting Dublin act ‘The Stoney Brokes’ and providing backing vocals for a number of acts across the Irish music scene. ANDI is the new project from Amy which sees the powerful singer stepping out solo into the spotlight. Amy is a performer and ANDI showcases not just her presence as a live act but also her skill as a songwriter.
‘Giving up’ was written at a time where Amy experienced severe self doubt. She had many doubts about pursuing music and had let her inner thoughts sabotage her music career. The story follows the protagonist (Amy) on the brink of ruination. She finds herself at a pinnacle moment in her life – she is on the border of a reality filled only with negative thoughts.
The track is powerful, captivating, emotional and moving. It also shows are vulnerable side to Amy as she opens up to the listener about her mental health, it is very courageous yet comforting. She takes the listener on an emotional ride as she lets you inside her mind and draws you in with her alluring lyrics. It is a sad but stunning track and she proves she is one of the most powerful female voices in Irish music. ‘Giving Up’ is breathtakingly beautiful, spiritual while also being sensitive. The incredible and poignant macabre music video also compliments the song exquisitely. Flourishing with power and emotion, ‘Giving Up’ is a flawless listen from start to finish and ANDI is certainly an artist on the rise.
